Fun Facts About Chiropractic You Never Knew

HOLA

How are you all! I’ve missed you guys.

Ollie’s back, your matcha beach wellness pilates girl x

I’m so grateful and invigorated to share these 5 Fun facts about Chiropractic you never knew.

  1. Chiropractors Study the Dead to Help the Living

To truly understand the human body, chiropractors during their uni days, spend hours studying painful, harsh, hardest subject : ANATOMY —on cadavers. (dead preserved bodies) I remember making 2000+ Anki Flashcards last anatomy exam. My mates from class even fainted, literally fell unconscious onto the floor 1st day of class. It was also hard for me to overcome the formaldehyde chemical smell, which gives me a (literal) headache each time. However, this hands-on learning touching interacting with cadavers, helps us master how each bones, muscles, and nerves look, interlinks. So hard but I kept pushing.

  2. Painkillers Work by Fooling Your Brain, Not Your Pain

Did you know painkillers don’t actually “fix” pain? Instead, they block pain signals to your brain, tricking it into thinking everything is fine. Funny hey. Chiropractic, on the other hand, aims to address the root cause of pain, offering a natural and lasting solution.

If you’re curious and wanna read more about the SCANDAL of Painkillers/ Opioids:

Studies have raised concerns about the effectiveness of certain painkillers, for treating acute back and neck pain. For instance, the University of Sydney found that opioids were no more effective than a placebo (substance looks real but has no active ingredients or direct therapeutic effect).

Additionally, a review in The BMJ found very limited supporting evidence that common painkillers are safe & effective for sudden low back pain.

While doctors commonly prescribe painkillers, their actual benefit in some pain conditions may be limited.

  1. Chiropractic Cracking Isn’t Breaking Bones

That satisfying “crack” you hear during an adjustment isn’t your bones breaking—it’s just gas bubbles in your joints called (cavitation) popping as they release pressure. Think of it as a sigh of relief for your spine!

  2. Your Pain Comes from your Nerves

Pain doesn’t actually come from the muscle or bone problem area—it’s your nerves sending “HELP IM STRESSED” signals to your brain. Chiropractic care focuses on calming this wounded child — irritated nerves and restoring their natural flow, helping to reduce pain and discomfort.

  3. The First Chiropractic Adjustment Was a Happy Accident

Back in 1895, Father of Chiro — D.D. Palmer gave the very 1st chiropractic adjustment to a janitor who had lost his hearing. Surprisingly, his hearing improved after the treatment. While it was never planned, it set up the foundation for modern day chiropractic care.

Chiropractic is full of fascinating stories and science that highlight just how amazing this industry is. Let me know which fact blew your mind! 💡

Warm wishes,

Ollie xoxo
